This year , the Thilakkam program was conducted at Alappuzha

This year , the Thilakkam program was conducted at Alappuzha on the Indian republic Day. The venue was N G O Union Hall, 22 visually impaired persons from the southern districts received smart phones with special applications from the Alappuzha M.P Sri A M Arif , in a function chaired by Municipal Chairperson Smt. Soumya Rajan .

The program commenced with a Prayer by a visually impaired girl, followed by a Welcome address delivered by Chief Coordinator ,Joyalukkas Foundation .He reminded the audience that this Republic day is most suited to conduct such a program for the visually impaired for many reasons. A blind Malayalam poet Sri. Balan Puthery received the Padma Shri award from the president of India on that day. Besides, world news channels have already exposed a new surgical wonder successfully developed by Israeli health scientists , by which a diseased cornea can be transplanted with a purely synthetic cornea that is life long.The very first transplant surgery was a great success giving hope to lakhs of visually impaired across the world . Mrs. Soumya in her presidential address, profusely eulogized the charity initiatives of JA foundation and thanked Foundation for providing permanent shelter for 50 nos flood affected families who lost their houses in Alappuzha . Sri. A M Arif M P , inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional lamp. He congratulated and thanked J A Foundation for the charitable services being done for the welfare of the society. After his talk he distributed the Smart phones to the visually impaired. Rev. Fr. Kudiamssery, Director Radio Naithal, Outstanding Cini Artist and poet Sri. Rajive Alunkal, Smt. Arya Byju, Dist. Secretary DAWF and Sri. Girish Keerthy, Board Member Kerala Disabled Persons Welfare Corporation etc .delivered the felicitations .Before the thanksgiving Sri George T A , DGM Trg & development stole the hearts by a melodious song .

Similar functions will be conducted at Thrissur and Perinthalmanna for distributing smartphones to visually impaired , living in northern and central Kerala
